When we are talking about wave energy and the conversion from wave power into electrical energy there are a lot to be considered. A lot of companies have tried and failed developing this technology and there are still a lot to be discovered about this invention. The reason why this technology is so important to figure out. The potential in this kind of power-source is almost endless. Thus there are a lot of obstacles in this kind of technology which is also why the many different companies trying to develop it has not entirely succeeded yet. Some of the things that makes this such a difficult task is firstly that waves behave very wired compared to for instance windpower. The wind always moves in one direction at a time.
But waves does not, and the different currents can be very hard to anticipate. Therefore the design of the wave energy converter systems need to consider waves from every direction at all times. Also there is a problem with the actual conditions of being in the water. There can be some very extreme weather and therefor there is a chance that bad weather can also destroy the wave energy converter systems.
There is also a problem with authorities. The reason is that there are a lot of regulations and environmental considerations to take into account before a company can be allowed to launch large machinery like this into the sea. This is understandable, and yet just another setback for the companies to succeed in developing this.
